Anyone in pain can book an emergency appointment, whether or not they're our patient. It costs £85, or nothing on a dental plan, and we can often start treatment at that visit. It's a mixed practice. We're taking on new NHS patients, adults and children, as well as private patients. We take a few details, register each person as an NHS patient and arrange a first dental examination, which costs nothing on the NHS in Scotland at any age. Families can have their appointments booked back to back. On the day, bring proof of any exemption from charges (a benefit award letter, an HC2 or HC3 certificate or your maternity exemption), a list of your medicines, and your previous dentist's details if you know them, so we can request earlier X-rays.

Every NHS dental examination in Scotland is free, and treatment is free too for under-26s, for anyone expecting a baby or whose baby is under a year old, and for people receiving qualifying benefits or with an HC2 certificate, while an HC3 gives partial help. Any other adult is charged 80% of the NHS fee, and one course of treatment, meaning all the work planned after a single examination, never comes to more than £384. The amounts come from the Scottish Government, not from us, and we'll confirm your share before treatment starts. If money is tight, the NHS Low Income Scheme (form HC1) may entitle you to an HC2 or HC3 certificate.

Joining privately starts with a new patient dental examination at £70, X-rays included. Routine dental examinations are £70 each after that, and a private examination for a child is £38. Half an hour with our hygienist costs £70, or £100 for an Airflow appointment. ² If a monthly payment suits you better, either dental plan, from £24.10 a month, includes examinations and hygienist appointments. No. Our dentists see NHS and private patients alike, and the first examination covers the same ground either way. We normally text you a medical history form to fill in beforehand. At the appointment we talk first about anything that's troubling you, then examine every tooth, your gums, how your teeth meet and the soft tissues inside your mouth, which is where mouth cancer can first show itself, with X-rays only if they'll show something useful. Afterwards you're given a written plan, each item priced and marked NHS or private, and we won't start anything that day unless you'd like us to. What differs is the fee and the time: the NHS examination is free in Scotland, while a private one costs £70, X-rays included, and gives you a longer appointment.
