Tooth Extractions, Lanark: Teeth Removed Carefully, with a Clear Plan
In Lanark, a routine extraction costs £125 and surgical or wisdom tooth removal costs £450. Local anaesthetic is enough for most, and the appointment rarely runs close to an hour. If anxiety would stop you coming, IV sedation is available. And before we remove anything, you'll get a straight answer on whether the tooth can be saved.
Sedation is £500 per session. Removal with stitches and a collagen dressing in the socket is £220. If it hurts, we try to fit you in that day. 1
When Removal Makes Sense
We'd always rather save a tooth. Sometimes, though, taking it out is the better option for you, usually for one of these reasons.
Broken Down to the Gum Line
When a split reaches the root, or there isn't enough tooth showing above the gum to support a crown, any repair would fail.
Recurring Infection
An abscess that reappears despite root canal treatment, or a root filling that has already failed repeatedly.
Loose From Gum Disease
When the bone supporting a root is largely lost, the tooth wobbles and there's no way to make it firm again.
Problem Wisdom Teeth
A lower wisdom tooth wedged into the molar ahead of it, one only partly erupted with repeatedly inflamed gum, or one decayed because it's impossible to clean.
Making Space for Alignment
Occasionally orthodontic or aligner treatment needs room that can only come from taking a tooth out.
Baby Teeth That Won't Budge
A child's tooth still firmly in place when the permanent one beneath is ready to erupt.
Which Extraction?
We'll show you the X-ray beforehand, so you know which type you're having before the appointment.
What Happens on the Day
Imaging First
An X-ray reveals the root shape. Where a lower wisdom tooth lies close to the nerve supplying sensation to your lip, our in-house CT scanner here in Lanark shows exactly how near in 3D.
Numbing
Nothing starts until you're completely numb. Expect firm pressure, but nothing sharp. If you're sedated, that's given first through a fine cannula, and afterwards most patients remember little.
The Extraction
Routine removals are over quickly. Surgical ones take more time, and we explain what you'll notice before every step.
Leaving the Practice
Biting on gauze stops the bleeding, and you go home with written aftercare instructions and a number to contact if you're concerned.
Do Wisdom Teeth Need to Go?
Lots of wisdom teeth cause no problems at all. When they've erupted fully, can be cleaned easily and aren't giving trouble, we simply monitor them at your dental examinations. UK guidance advises against removing healthy wisdom teeth as a precaution.
Removal becomes sensible if one causes repeated infections in the gum over it (pericoronitis), is decayed beyond a reasonable filling, or is harming the neighbouring molar. Uppers tend to be simpler to remove than lowers.
For lowers, the chief risks are dry socket and, more rarely, numbness of the lip or tongue if a nearby nerve is bruised; this normally settles. Your dentist goes over your personal risk using the scan before you choose. Coming in from Carluke or Lesmahagow for treatment under sedation? Arrange for someone to drive you home afterwards.
Home Aftercare
Replacing the Missing Tooth
A space right at the back may never need replacing. Left for long, though, neighbouring teeth can lean into it, the tooth opposite can over-erupt, and the bone shrinks away, mostly in the first few months. If you'll want a replacement, decide before the extraction.
When it's a front tooth, an immediate denture (£495) or a resin-retained bridge (£675 a unit) means nobody sees a space. As a permanent answer, a dental implant can be placed once the socket heals a few months on, and in some cases on extraction day itself.
Considering an Implant Later?
Dr Kalsi plans every implant from a CT scan taken in the practice, which shows whether the bone can hold one immediately or should heal first. There's no charge for the consultation; the £20 deposit comes back to you within 7 days of attending.
