White Fillings in Lanark: Repairs That Match Your Own Teeth
In Lanark, our white fillings start at £105 for front teeth and £118 for back teeth, with the price set by the number of surfaces involved. Nearly all are completed in one visit lasting 30 to 60 minutes. 1
Dental plan members pay £106, not £118, for a single-surface back filling. 1 We're taking on new NHS patients, adults and children, as well as private patients.
Reasons for a Filling
Because composite bonds to enamel, it repairs much more than cavities.
Decay Picked Up at an Examination
It may not be sore yet. Treating it early keeps the filling small and the cost low.
A Worn-Out Amalgam Filling
Split, leaking around its margin, or with new decay forming beneath it.
A Broken Edge
Restored in a matching colour. At the front of the mouth, this is also the material we use for composite bonding.
A Groove Near the Gum
Acid and heavy brushing can wear a dip that's sensitive to cold. Sealing it over usually ends the twinge.
Deep Decay Near the Nerve
First we lay down a protective MTA liner (£60) to give the nerve its best chance to recover.
A Badly Broken Tooth
A composite build-up (£350) rebuilds the core, either as the final repair or as the foundation for a crown.
What Happens at the Visit
Nearly every filling is done in one sitting.
Pinpointing the Decay
Decay between teeth is often invisible. A small X-ray reveals how far it goes, and we show you the picture and explain the cost.
Numbing the Tooth
We apply a numbing gel before the injection. Very shallow fillings can sometimes be done without any.
Removing the Decay
We take away only the softened, decayed tooth. The area is kept dry throughout, since moisture would weaken the bond.
Rebuilding the Tooth
Composite is added in thin layers, each set with a curing light, before being shaped to fit your bite and polished.
Will a Filling Do?
Fillings do well when the remaining tooth walls are thick and healthy. When much of the tooth is lost, a large filling bends under chewing forces and may crack the tooth apart.
Expected Lifespan
A composite filling typically lasts five to ten years, often much longer. Small fillings in areas that take little load usually outlive large ones in molars, which bear the brunt of chewing.
Three things shorten their life: night-time grinding, frequent sugar, and fresh decay at the margin. Regular dental examinations pick these up before the filling gives way.
Signs of trouble include a sharp edge you keep touching with your tongue, food getting stuck between teeth, or sweet things starting to sting. Come in early instead of waiting for pain.
Should Amalgam Come Out?
A sound amalgam filling won't be replaced simply for its colour. Drilling it out costs extra tooth, and one in good condition can keep going for decades.
Replacement makes sense if it's cracked, has decay beneath it, or shows when you smile and you dislike that. We'll go through each of yours at your examination. There's more in our guide to replacing metal fillings with white.
For NHS patients, the filling material is set by NHS rules and the tooth involved, so amalgam is sometimes used on back teeth. A white filling on a back tooth is available privately if you prefer.
Filling Fees
Each tooth has five surfaces, and the price follows how many your filling spans. You'll see the exact cost in your written plan before treatment, and dental plan members save 10%. Prices reviewed October 2026. 1

Once It's Done
Preventing New Fillings
The frequency of sugar matters more than the quantity. Save sweet foods for mealtimes, brush with fluoride toothpaste, and spit without rinsing afterwards.
If you clench or grind, a night guard shields both teeth and fillings. Seeing Fiona, our hygienist, regularly keeps the margins of your fillings clean.
