Bonding in Lanark
Our fees and what each covers, how a bonded tooth is built, how long it holds, how our price compares across Lanarkshire, and when we'd steer you elsewhere.
What Does Composite Bonding Cost in Lanark?
At Lanark Smile Studios one bonded tooth is £395. For a set, four teeth are £1,550, six £2,350, eight £3,150 and ten £3,950, and every set comes with home whitening, a review appointment and a finishing polish. Your dentist will usually finish in one or two visits, drilling little or nothing, after a free consultation at our High Street practice.
Our Bonding Fees, Set Out in Full
| What you're having | Teeth covered | Fee |
|---|---|---|
| One tooth | A single chip, a worn corner or one small space | £395 |
| Set of four | The two upper front teeth and the one beside each | £1,550 |
| Set of six | Those four, plus the canine on either side | £2,350 |
| Set of eight | Back to the first premolar on each side | £3,150 |
| Set of ten | Out to the second premolars, for a broad smile | £3,950 |
Each set includes Boutique home whitening, a look at the finished teeth roughly two weeks on, and a final polish. A composite veneer over the whole front of a tooth is charged at the same rate as edge bonding. 1 Your fee is fixed in a written plan before treatment begins.
Our dental plan discount doesn't apply to bonding, so you pay the same fee whether or not you're a member. Members do get 10% off most other private treatment, including any fillings or gum treatment needed before the bonding goes on.
Bonding Prices Around Clydesdale
Look online for composite bonding in Lanark and no local practice website comes up, and searches for Biggar, Lesmahagow or Clydesdale don't return a dental practice website. That's partly why we publish ours. Elsewhere around Lanark, published bonding fees run from roughly £180 to £350 a tooth, mostly below our single-tooth fee. Here is what accounts for the difference.
- An advertised figure is often a "from" price. It usually describes a small repair to one edge. Building up a whole tooth or veneering its front takes much longer, and most practices charge more for it.
- Whitening tends to be billed separately. We put it in every set, and bought alone it's £350. Take it out of the four-tooth fee and the bonding itself works out at £300 per tooth.
- Layered composite takes longer. Your dentist builds each tooth from several shades and degrees of translucency, so the biting edge has the faintly see-through look of real enamel. That is slower work than a one-shade repair.
- Aftercare sits inside the fee. The review, any bite adjustment and the finishing polish aren't charged as extra appointments.
Paying less doesn't have to mean poorer work. For one small chip, a simple one-shade repair can do the job well, and we'll tell you if that's all you need. Wherever you go, ask what's included, how many shades are used, who carries out the bonding and what happens if an edge breaks.

How a Bonded Tooth Is Built
Composite bonding means adding tooth-coloured resin to the surface of a tooth rather than removing anything. After cleaning, the enamel is prepared with a primer and adhesive so that the composite holds. Your dentist then adds the resin in thin layers, setting each with a blue curing lamp, and then shapes and polishes the tooth until it catches the light like its neighbours.
It comes in two forms. Edge bonding builds out corners and biting edges. A composite veneer covers the entire front surface, so the colour can change as well as the shape. Because material goes on rather than coming off, almost all of your enamel is left alone. Occasionally a tiny amount is smoothed so the margin disappears, and the dentist planning your treatment will tell you at the consultation whether your teeth need it.
Who Bonding Suits, and Who It Doesn't
Bonding works best for small to moderate changes on healthy teeth, such as:
- A front tooth chipped in a fall, by a fork or during sport
- Biting edges that have worn down and flattened with age
- A narrow space between the two front teeth
- One slim or peg-shaped tooth next to normal-sized ones
- Chalky white marks on the enamel
- Older bonding that has discoloured or was never a good match
Crowding is another matter. Composite adds thickness and can't move a tooth, so crowded teeth usually look better once they've been straightened. People who grind hard tend to chip composite edges, so we'd add a night guard to the plan or talk about porcelain. Decay and inflamed gums need treating before any bonding, because composite on an unhealthy tooth won't last.
Your Visits, From Consultation to Polish
- Free consultation. We take photographs, see how your teeth bite together and talk through the shape you'd like. Larger cases get a digital design, and a trial smile can be placed over your own teeth so you see the shape before committing. A £20 deposit secures the booking and is refunded within 7 days of the appointment.
- Home whitening. Your trays are made from an iTero scan and worn for two to three weeks. We then allow around a fortnight for the shade to settle before the composite is matched to it.
- Bonding day. Most cases need one long appointment, and some composite veneer sets need two. Each tooth is kept dry and isolated while the layers go on, and most patients don't need any numbing.
- Review. Roughly two weeks later we check your bite, ease any spot that meets too early and polish everything to its final finish.
If you'd like your teeth done before Lanimer Day in June, or another summer occasion, start about two months ahead, because whitening and the settling time come before the bonding.
How Long Bonding Lasts
Expect around three to five years before bonding needs refreshing, and many people get longer. What wears it faster is well known: grinding at night, biting nails or pen lids, smoking, and plenty of coffee, tea or red wine. Composite takes up stain more easily than porcelain, but the polish at your hygiene appointments lifts most of it.
Most chipped corners are rebuilt in a single short visit, without redoing the whole tooth. Refreshing usually means a polish or a new surface layer rather than starting over. If you grind, a custom night guard (£210) shields the edges overnight.
When Porcelain or Invisalign Is the Better Route
| Feature | Composite bonding | Porcelain veneers |
|---|---|---|
| Enamel removed | Normally none, or a light polish | A thin layer, permanently |
| Visits | One, occasionally two | Three, including a trial smile |
| Typical lifespan | About 3 to 5 years before a refresh | Often 10 to 15 years or longer |
| Staining | Picks some up; it polishes off | Keeps its colour very well |
| If it chips | Usually repaired at one visit | Usually remade |
| Per tooth | £395 | From £695 |
Porcelain tends to suit a large change across several teeth that you want to last, or teeth that are very dark or heavily filled. Where teeth overlap or tilt, a course of Invisalign beforehand often reduces the composite needed, sometimes to nothing. For more detail, read our guide to porcelain and composite veneers.
